A Century of Light: The Enduring Legacy of Eclipse Chapter No. 220
For more than a century, Eclipse Chapter No. 220 has stood as a beacon of dedication, resilience, and service. Our story begins in October 1919, a time of great transformation in America—an era marked by social change, community building, and an unwavering pursuit of progress. It was during this pivotal moment that a vision took shape, guided by leaders determined to create a chapter rooted in excellence and purpose.

Foundations of a Legacy (1919–1926)
Eclipse No. 220 was established with the support of esteemed leaders: Past Grand Worthy Matron Ada C. LaPrade and Past Grand Worthy Patron C.D. Hayes, who granted permission for its formation. The chapter was officially sanctioned by Past Most Worshipful Master S.M. Strayhorne, marking the beginning of a legacy that would span generations.
Our first Worthy Matron, Sister Carrie Davis, and first Worthy Patron, Brother C.E. Davis, laid the foundation of leadership and service. From 1922 to 1926, Sister Davis continued her dedicated service as Worthy Matron, while Brother Davis and Brother Tom Arledge alternated in the role of Worthy Patron. Their stewardship ensured the chapter’s stability during its earliest years.

Surviving Through Hardship
The challenges of the Great Depression shook communities across the nation. Yet, through unity and determination, Eclipse No. 220 endured. While many organizations struggled or disappeared entirely during this era, our chapter remained steadfast—an early sign of its remarkable resilience.

Growth, Change, and Determination (1955–1960)
In 1955, Eclipse No. 220 entered a new chapter when it was “adopted” by Prince Hall No. 1. This significant connection was sparked by the election of Sister Nannie Wilkins as Worthy Matron and the concurrent service of Brother Wilkins as Worshipful Master of Prince Hall No. 1. This partnership strengthened our chapter’s foundation and broadened our support network within the Masonic community.
However, not all seasons were harmonious. In 1960, a division within the membership led to a group attempting to take the chapter’s charter. Thanks to unwavering leadership and unity among remaining members, the effort proved unsuccessful. The chapter emerged stronger, more unified, and ready to move forward.

A Legacy Strengthened Over 65 Years
From the 1960s through today, Eclipse No. 220 has grown in strength, spirit, and membership. For more than 65 years, each decade has added new accomplishments, community involvement, and dedicated leaders who elevated our mission.
Our chapter’s commitment to enrichment and service has been visible in its events and community presence—including its involvement with the 18th Avenue Enrichment Center, which has served as a hub for empowerment and collaboration.

A Historic Milestone: A Father–Daughter Leadership Team
In 2025, Eclipse No. 220 reached a landmark moment by electing its first Father/Daughter Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron team. This historic pairing honored both family legacy and chapter tradition, symbolizing the intergenerational strength that has always been central to Eclipse No. 220.

A Legacy That Shines On
For over a century, Eclipse Chapter No. 220 has grown not only in age, but in purpose, resilience, and impact. From our visionary founders in 1919 to the dynamic leaders who guide us today, each generation has added a thread to the rich tapestry of our history.
As we move forward, we honor the past, embrace the present, and illuminate the future—standing firmly on the legacy of strength, unity, and excellence that defines Eclipse Chapter No. 220.
